Fremont Citizens Network

This week I received my Sample Ballot and Voter Information Pamphlet for the
special election on May, 2009.

I was disgusted that this "pamphlet" is called "Voter Information" because there
is so little information and much of it contradicts itself. Time to Google!

Here is the site that gives fuller info about what these 6 propositions would
do. They will affect You and me for many years to come.

Much of it will affect funding for our schools.

It's important to vote but it's more important to know what you're voting on.

Thanks for sharing, Randy.

I found some more links that are useful on smartvoter.org. Each of the following link provides the info on the proposition and also has links to some analysis on the right side under "Non-partisan Analysis" sections:

I am going to create one topic per proposition for people to discuss their opinions and findings.
Added a forum discussion on Proposition 1C. Please participate on that forum topic for any discussion on Prop 1C: http://community.fremontcitizensnetwork.org/forum/topics/propositio...

Got this from a PTA Member:

The latest CA budget passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor back in February requires a special election on May 19th. The CA PTA is taking positions regarding the statewide ballot measures next month. The positions are:

Proposition 1A - Support
(Restores education funding, temporarily increases state revenues, and establishes a "rainy day" stabilization fund)

Proposition 1B - Support
(Education funding repayment plan)

Proposition 1C - Support
(Modernization of the Lottery)

Proposition 1D - Oppose
(First 5/Children's Services Funding)

Proposition 1E - Support
(Mental health services funding)

Proposition 1F - No Position
(Legislative pay increases)

For more information directly from CA PTA and the thinking behind the positions, please view:

California Report has started covering propositions on the ballot for the Special Election in May. They have produced (in collaboration with KQED?) a series that discuss about different propositions and items for the special election.
You can read and listen to audio for series online at:
http://www.kqed.org/news/specialcoverage/09specialelection/

So far, I am able to see coverage for Prop 1A. They said they will be posting others soon starting now. So check their website daily.
Thanks, Deepak,

KQED is about as even-handed a discussion as you can find.

This URL will take you directly to the discussion of Prop. 1-A:

And this one will take you directly to the discussion of Prop. 1-B:

I'm following this closely because I'm on the fence at this point.

It looks like many of California's teachers do *not* support Prop. 1-A.

Prop. 1A has teacher groups divided

Looks like the voters rejected the propositions 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, and 1E.
The only proposition that got passed was 1F.
