In these financially challenging times of extreme cutbacks, it is inexcusable to waste over 2 million dollars on a project that benefits no one. The City of Fremont, showing a lack of common sense, continues to try to force an expensive Skateboard Park into a known USGS hazard area, adjacent to the Waterpark, where it is doomed to presenting problems for everyone. A one-acre skateboard park, free to all participants at this Waterpark site, WILL forever negatively impact the revenue generating Waterpark as well as impede senior citizens and patrons of Central Park. This move would also significantly disturb residential areas, which is very inconsiderate to residents and skateboarders. (Nearby Livermore exposed only a fraction of problems possible at the isolated Waterpark site - www.skateparkcentral.com/News/Print%20Valley%20Times%203-31-2002.pdf .)

This project was well underway before ANY resident in the area became aware of the goings on. While some uninformed outsiders may say NIMBY, it's actually DUMB as sites have become available that are away from any residences and solve every concern. These are conveniently located within the several acres of undeveloped land between Stevenson Blvd and the Teen Center, near the area where a skateboard park peacefully existed for years. These alternate sites were just recently acknowledged by the City to be achievable on schedule for this skateboard park (which is now even much sooner and easier than anywhere else). These sites are not only favored by businesses in the area, but in an analysis, are clearly superior for ALL of Fremont.

Note the response from a trusted source whose business is nearest these alternate sites ...

Why is the City trying to move the skateboard park a mile away into a residential area despite the residents UNANIMOUS objections? The City hasn't been able to come up with even one reason how implementing a Skateboard Park at the Waterpark site benefits skateboarders or residents, but they sure are generous with other peoples money! Please communicate to the mayor ( bwasserman@fremont.gov or (510) 284-4011 ) and all of Fremont to do the right thing and not continue a choice that will waste over 2 million dollars of taxpayer money. A Skateboard Park at the Waterpark site WILL cost a lot more than simply implementing it near its previous location where it can peacefully exist for many more years.
