Patterson Ranch proposal at Coyote Hills -- EIR (Environmental Impact Report) comments due Monday, 8/2
Dear friends of Coyote Hills,
A reminder that the Patterson Ranch EIR (environmental impact report) was released in June. We have until Monday, August 2, to let the City know why we don’t want massive development (Patterson Ranch proposal) in front of our cherished Coyote Hills Regional Park.
Currently, the site is zoned for only 266 housing units, but the Pattersons want a high-density development of 520 housing units. They have already developed over 5,000 houses in Fremont and made $63 million selling 15.5 acres (Tupelo lot across the street from Coyote Hills).
Tell the City Council that they should not allow this additional development before it is too late! We want the City Council to make the right decision for the community, not based on hefty campaign contributions that council members have received from the Pattersons. Campaign contribution limit was raised to $520 per person in 2010.
This proposed massive development, along with the Tupelo lot (high-density housing construction continuing), next to Coyote Hills wouild add 3.2 million car trips annually to our city streets, degrade residents' quality of life, and increase air, water, and noise pollution.
In an earthquake, the Patterson Ranch project would put thousands of adults’ and children’s lives in jeopardy due to high risk of soil liquefaction (on this floodplain and proposed man-made fill).
A public safety disaster is waiting to happen if gas and water lines break and fires are fueled by southeasterly winds from SF Bay less than 1 mile away.
Therefore, this proposal puts other Fremont residents at risk due to the assignment of police and fire staff in one large development in the event of a public safety disaster.
Don’t you think it is the moral responsibility of the Fremont City Council and Planning Commission to ensure our safety rather than approve a high-density housing development that would jeopardize residents’ safety?
In addition, this proposed development further burdens and financially jeopardizes Fremont's overcrowded and underfunded school system. Should Fremont put taxpayers at risk of bailing out another development scheme doomed to failure?
