A’s Protest Scheduled
By Matt Artz, Monday, February 2nd, 2009 at 1:14 pm in A's.

The Oakland A’s are holding a small neighborhood meeting Thursday evening at Weibel Elementary School in Warm Springs — not far from where the team would like to build a stadium near the future Warm Springs BART station.

The thing is, according to stadium opponents, only 25 people will be allowed in for the meeting - the A’s prefer small venues where they can make their pitch without large numbers opponents shouting them down.

So those who won’t get inside for the meeting say they will be protesting the stadium plan outside the school around 6:30 p.m.

It’ll be interesting to see how big a crowd they get. Opponents have so far gotten 1388 people to sign this online petition..

The A's coming to Fremont without a vote from the people seems unfair. I don't think Fremont can handle the environmental impact for our sanitation, our police and fire departments are already short handed, crime would increase, Traffic is already unbearable at commute times for any one who travels 880 or 680 or any where near on Mission Blvd., Osgood/Warm Springs Blvd. It is bumper to bumper and slow moving. We don't have money to support our schools, I do not want to be taxed to support a stadium. I do not think there has been enough public meetings and publication for the meetings to support one way or the other. I think it would be helping commercial property owners. Hurting already suffering local restaurants.
I would like to see us be in a better economy and not put more pressure on individuals who do not participate in baseball as a spectator. Fremont is my town that I grew up in and raised a family in, I do not see the need for a stadium.

As far as I know, A's did not select those 25. They set the capacity at 25. The meeting was hosted by a concerned citizen and also Weibel parent, first come first served and it is going to take place in Weibel.

If you won't fight for your children and community what's your purpose in life.
No A's Stadium near Our School!

What about handing out information to people in the carpool lane? Are we allowed to do that . We could stand on the city street if that is any issue. But we really need to get the word out to Mission, Warm Springs, James Leith. Anyone who lives in Fremont, Newark and Union City will be effected. People trying to get home from work in San Jose or anywhere south and north will be dealing with delays. Guess what you have to pay when your late picking up your kid from childcare and then you will have less time to spend with your family because you will have to spend it all in the car!!!!!!!!!! Come out and fight this !!!!!!

I suggest that those who are going, please walk to Weibel as far as possible. There are some going to the event who are not from Weibel. They live farther and must drive.

Make a sign in 10 Minutes
You can get every thing you need to make a sign at Wall mart in about 10 minutes
In the stationary section they have large black markers
They also have science story board displays,
turned backwards you have a large white area.
In the sewing department get 2 wooden yard sticks
you will need to tape the two yard sticks together
You can make a 2 sided sign by stapling the yard sticks to the story board.
I will help anyone staple their sign together that needs it

Make sure to make the lettering large, so you see the sign from 100 ft away

Might need flash light; or use car head light. People will need to park the cars in the neighborhood street and walk a little bit.
